A Hillman City Neighborhood Council is under construction—we want your input. The council will perform activities such as:
• Advocate for Hillman City interests before local government officials. • Host meetings focused on getting feedback from community members • Organize efforts to improve the neighborhood based on community feedback • Seek funding for projects to improve the community
Join us on the evening of September 15th for a community-wide meeting to review the proposed structure, offer feedback, and vote on whether to approve the design of this council. We need a variety of neighborhood voices.

Will you help clean up our neighborhood? From 9am to Noon on Oct. 24, the Hillman City Business Association is organizing a Costumed Cleanup.
Cleaner-uppers will meet at Big Chickie starting at 8:30 for Tin Umbrella coffee and pastries, and will work till Noon. Following the cleanup, volunteers will have a chili lunch at Big Chickie with beer specials from Spinnaker Bay. Prizes will be offered for best costumes!
And just to sweeten the deal, all pre-registered participants will receive a free t-shirt with the below design
On June 8, join people, pets and Team Kora at Seward Park for the Furry 5K—a fun run and walk to benefit the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation!
Jonathan and Susan (your neighbors and the creators of HillmanCity.net) lost a dear friend this month, when our cat Kora was killed on the night of May 16. She had gotten loose from the house, wandered further than usual, and encountered a viciously cruel person or people, who strangled her and left her to die hanging from a neighbor’s fence.
We are still in shock at the loss of our sweet friend, but we take comfort in knowing that others in the neighborhood cared about Kora too. We’re also benefiting from the dedication of staff at the Seattle Animal Shelter, who delivered the sad news to us, are investigating the crime, and have arranged with the Humane Society to offer a $5000 reward for information leading to the person or people responsible for Kora’s death.
Now, we want to turn our grief into positive action–and to celebrate the lives of all of our furry 4-pawed friends. So we’re forming Team Kora to fundraise for the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation in Kora’s memory, and we invite you to walk with us on June 8!

Bridge to Beach (B2B) is on Sunday, April 27th this year.
This is the Rainier Valley Day of Service, where neighbors are out picking up trash, weeding planting strips, painting out graffiti, building benches, art projects, or whatever other kind of project that helps beautify our part of the city.
Hillman City residents have already signed up for at least one Bridge to Beach projects, including this one below:
- Bringing Beauty to Hillman City’s Concrete Planters — 8am-4pm; Rainier Ave S between Lucile and Mead. An all-day project to empty, paint, and plant those blue concrete planter boxes in Hillman City with beautiful, drought-tolerant plants. Sign up on this handy volunteer page if you’re interested in helping out and meeting some of your neighbors.
